Gwenny's 1st Birthday

Gwenny's 1st birthday is coming up on March 18th and some people have been inquiring as to what she might need. She asked me to post some ideas at http://www.navarrete.org/gwenny/wishlist/.

Gwenny's First Word

Yeah yeah, she's been saying "mama", "dada", and "baba" for a while now. But this is her first "real" word - and she knows what it means. Of course, once she discovered what a positive reaction she gets when she says it, she started saying it all day and all night.

Daddy and I were at an office supply store and she said "cat". We laughed and explained that she says it all the time, regardless of whether there is actually a cat present. Imagine our suprise to turn around and see that she was looking at a folder with a cat on it! Who looks silly now?

Gwenny's Cleanup Crew

After every meal it's Grommit to the rescue. He's our official cleanup crew. Gwenny and Grommy had a wonderful relationship - she was happy to feed him all her food and he was happy to eat it all... until we installed baby gates. Now Grommit has to wait until after the meal is over for his feast. How demeaning.

Here she is eating a banana - one of her favorite things. When she sees me peeling it she's makes an urgent "mmmm-mmmm-mmmm" sound.

Now people can tell she's a girl.

Gwenny's First Trip to Chucky Cheese's

She generously donated all of her tokens to her big brother and his friend. She did enjoy her pizza and the "Make Believe Band" show though!

Gwenny's First Tooth

I should have posted a while back about this. Gwenny got her first tooth the Monday after Thanksgiving (Nov 28th). It's the front bottom one. She is using it like a pro already to eat cheese and bite people! We managed to capture it on video a little, although we have yet to get a good still shot of it.

In this video you can also hear a little of her babbling and see her "waving". She does in fact say "mama" quite distinctly, but the person you hear saying mama in the video is me. :)

Gwenny starts crawling tonight!

Gwenny has seemed like she would start crawling, any day now. Which has been a little sad because it would crush us to find out that she took her first little wiggles at day care.

Tonight, after getting home from having dinner with our friends Kirk and Carolyn, Cheryl put her on the floor in the office to try to get her to crawl.

At first, she just crawled backwards slightly, as she usually does, but this time she also backed up to her feet, so that her bottom was up in the air. At this point, Cheryl calls me to come see.

I came up into the office, and she tells me what has happened so far. I get down on the carpet and start calling to Gwenny to come to me. To our amazement, she starts to move towards me. She's in crawling position and seems a little hesitant, then all of a sudden, she take about 3 definite steps. The light bulb has come on. We're both overjoyed and Cheryl lifts Gwenny and hugs her.

Rich knocks on the door, we tell him what has just happened. He says, "no waay." We try it out again, this time, Cheryl films it with the camera. This time she crawls a little more, Rich's jaw drops.

We're all ecstatic. Next we put Gwenny on the floor and get her to crawl to Cheryl, she crawls all the way to Cheryl, at least 5 to 6 steps!!!
